IN MEMORY OF NICK P. FISCHLER 2/24/1940 – 8/1/2020

This Memorial Square comes to us from Barbara in Florida in memory of her husband, Nick Fischler. Barbara writes: My husband, Nick Fischler, died of COVID-19 on August 1, 2020. He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and was living in a Memory Care Facility near our home. Prior to Covid, we were still able to go to restaurants and theater, etc., together and with friends. He became ill in late July and was hospitalized due to a low grade fever and low oxygen levels. His symptoms soon disappeared and he was asymptomatic and about to be discharged when he suddenly took a turn for the worst and died. When I read your article in People Magazine I knew that I wanted Nick to be a part of your quilt. Unfortunately, I do not know how to sew. I am sending two pictures of him. One from October 1990 when he went to the Whitey Ford/Mickey Mantle Fantasy Baseball Camp (they were NY Yankees). He loved the Yankees and so our grown son and daughter thought that would be an appropriate photo. The other is from one of our European vacations. It was taken in Bruges, Belgium in June, 2017. He loved to travel. The hat is from the City of Siena in Italy. Nick loved his wife, son, daughter, son-in-law and 3 granddaughters the most. After that it was the NY Yankees! NOTE TO THE FAMILY: We will be making a Memorial Square in honor of Nick using the photos sent and of course THE NEW YORK YANKEES! When the Memorial Square is completed, we will publish it here. -Covid Memorial Quilt
