This Memorial Square honors Dave Bushman who grew up in the Bronx, NY. Dave got a Masters Degree from the New School For Social Research and become a teacher in the NYC public school system. He was also a progressive political activist, working for social justice. In 2010, Dave learned he carried a mutation for the BRCA1 gene and reconstructed his family tree to educate family members on their genetic predisposition, saving several lives. He was honored with the FORCE Spirit of Empowerment Award and his work and research culminated in the memoir, “Searching For Bella.” Dave was a passionate fan of movies, storytelling, Star Wars, Star Trek, and James Bond. A month before he died, he and his wife, Jessie, went on a Star Trek-themed cruise and he dressed in a costume from his favorite episode, “The Inner Light.”
